Have you all been keeping up? With Google Merchant Center’s latest feature, the Short Title tab has been launched. Google claims it will help you provide concise product details and attract customers more effectively. What are the details? Today, Relevant Audience will guide you through understanding this new feature, the Short Title.

What are Google Product Data Attributes? Sellers Need to Know

When working with Google Merchant Center, once you’ve registered for the service, it’s time to upload your products to https://shopping.google.com/. Google requires you to fill in product details so that the Google system can display them on the website. Google calls these Google Product Data Attributes. Examples include:

Image Link – Communicate Products with Images

It’s undeniable that the best communication is through images. Google allows you to include product images via a Link URL. The supported formats are JPEG, WebP, PNG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF. Importantly, remember to update your product images regularly so that the Google system can gather information to appear in Google Shopping ad campaigns.

Description

Google explains that providing appropriate details and accurate descriptions for products will allow the Google system to match those products with interested customers effectively.

Title and Short Title – Sellers Need to Use These Effectively

The Title Attribute is the name field that emphasizes detailed product information to allow the Google system to display the product on Google’s website. Meanwhile, the Short Title Attribute, newly added by Google, is a shorter name that concisely defines the product, allowing viewers to immediately identify what the product is. However, the Short Title is an optional feature and will only appear on the Gmail website through Shopping Ads and Discovery Campaigns.

How to Set Up a Short Title That Pleases Google

Google has specified some requirements for setting up a Short Title. If these are not followed, Google may restrict access to your products. Here are the details Google has outlined:

In conclusion, the Short Title added by Google responds to the behavior of social media users who tend to scroll quickly. In today’s consumer advertising, long titles cannot attract people’s attention as much as describing your product with a short and concise name. This makes it easier for people to access your products. There are also many other Google Product Data Attributes that Google has provided. You can click here for more details here.
