  • Sitelinks Extensions are ad extensions for sitelinks, which display additional links about products or services, such as contact information, business hours, etc.
  • Call Extensions are ad extensions for calls, which display contact numbers and call buttons in the ad.
  • Location Extension is an ad extension for location, which displays address information and can link this information to Google networks, such as Google Maps, for greater convenience for users.

For marketers who use Google Ads, get ready to use the upgraded Ads Extension because Google is completing it this May. It will be automatically updated in all user accounts.

This article will explain what Google Ads Extension is, how important it is, and how it will affect subsequent results after Google’s update. If you’re ready, let’s check it out together.

What is Google Ads Extension?

Google Ads Extension literally means an ad extension that helps add details to advertising campaigns, whether it’s adding descriptions related to products or services, making them feel interesting and attracting people’s attention. In theory, using Ads Extension can increase click-through rates.

What Types of Ads Extensions Are There?

This ad extension is often chosen differently depending on the purpose of each campaign. There are many classifications, but for this article, we will divide it into 2 types:

  1. Basic Extensions
  2. Other Extensions

The first type of ad extension includes:

The second type of ad extension includes:

  • Callout Text is an extension that helps emphasize additional ad copy, with a symbol (.) preceding it.
  • Structured Snippets Extensions are extensions that help categorize products or services, indicating what products or services the business has.
  • Message Extensions are extensions that allow users to send messages immediately.
  • Affiliate Location Extensions are similar to Location Extensions but are suitable for businesses with branches, as the system will display only the branches closest to the searcher.
  • Price Extensions are ad extensions for displaying the price of products or services.
  • App Extensions are extensions that describe or recommend users to download the app, suitable for businesses with their own app.
  • Review Extensions are extensions that display reviews from users of products or services to create interest for those who see them.

What Will Change After the Ads Extensions Upgrade?

Google stated, “It’s time to rebuild these ad extensions to reduce complexity in creation and management, and to add new features for marketers to use.” The most interesting thing is the improvement of the Ads Extension feature to allow users to temporarily stop using it without deleting it.

However, the upgrade also comes with the discontinuation of some functions, such as:

  • Device Preference settings on mobile phones for all ad extensions
  • Start-End Date settings for Call Extensions
  • Ad Schedules for In-App ad extensions
  • Start-End Date and Ad Schedules on Price and Structured Snippets

Remember that in May, all ad extensions (except Image and Location Extensions) will be upgraded automatically. A significant benefit of this upgrade is that users can choose to stop using these ad extensions as they wish without affecting performance.
