New Ad Placement on Instagram Can Now Be Run Through the Marketing API

On October 4, Meta announced new Ad Placements on the Instagram platform (you can read more here) on both the Profile page and the Explore page, with the goal of allowing brands and marketers to display their ad campaigns within the platform's most popular features. 

More recently, Meta made an additional announcement regarding running ads on the Explore page on Instagram, whereby brands or marketers using the Instagram Marketing API can run them immediately without needing to update to a new version. What are the details, and what do marketers need to know? Let's take a look together.

A New Ad Placement on the Instagram Explore Tab  

As mentioned above, Meta had previously decided to add new Ad Placements for the Instagram platform, adding ads in two spots: the Profile page and the Explore Tab. Both of these are popular tab pages used by the majority of users. Many people who use Instagram regularly have probably already seen ad-type content. For content in the form of an advertisement, there will be a label reading "Sponsored" so users know that it is content specifically for advertising purposes.

Run Campaigns Through the Instagram Marketing API Immediately

The Marketing API is a new solution from Meta designed specifically for online marketing. Users can create and manage ads, retrieve in-depth insights, and much more.

Following the announcement of the new Ad Placement to add more options for brands and marketers to run campaigns, in its latest announcement on November 11, Meta allowed brands and marketers to use a tool like the Marketing API—an online marketing solution on the Meta Platform—to adjust and manage advertising campaigns for "Instagram Explore Home," the new Ad Placement. The main features that have been added are as follows:

Looking across various platforms, you can see that almost every online platform is starting to add more Ad Placements in order to attract brands and marketers by giving them more options for running ad campaigns. For example, Apple has added new Ad Placements on the App Store (you can read more here), and Google has added Podcast Placements on YouTube. It must be said that these moves by the various platforms are yet another thing both brands and marketers need to be aware of, so that they can keep refining their online marketing plans to stay ahead of the competition.
