Following our report at the end of 2022, Google initiated Code Red to form an AI Product development team to compete with the groundbreaking ChatGPT AI chatbot (Google Issues Code Red to Expedite AI Product Development). Recently, Sundar Pichai, Google’s talented CEO, announced Google Bard, a cutting-edge AI chatbot that Google plans to launch soon.
Currently, Google Bard is in its experimental first version, showcasing some usage examples. It is believed to be a formidable competitor to ChatGPT. This article will summarize the launch details of Google Bard so everyone can learn about it together. What interesting aspects will there be, and what impact will it have on the search engine industry in the future? Marketers, don’t miss out. Let’s take a look.
What is Google Bard?
According to the details on the Google Blog, Google describes Google Bard as an Experimental Conversational AI Service powered by LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), an AI system designed and developed specifically for chat or conversational applications. It was first introduced at the Google I/O event in 2021.
Google Bard is powered by LaMDA, a lightweight model, which reduces energy consumption during processing. This allows developers to expand to an early testing group to receive external feedback to improve and develop Bard for better efficiency and safety.
How Will Bard Be Used in Google Search?
Google’s initial plan is to integrate Google Bard with its own search engine technology, Google Search. This is a pilot project to combine them, allowing Bard to gather various information while filtering complex data and simplifying it for users to easily understand the overall picture quickly. Users can also still select other websites to study more detailed information. As shown in the example image above, Google demonstrates how users can ask anything, and the system will display a set of filtered data from Google Bard to answer it at the top, and the links to various websites will be displayed in the bottom bar as usual.
However, currently Google Bard is still in the testing phase. Google will allow specific expert testers to test it before opening it up to the general public, and then open it for full use.
Concluding Remarks
It might be premature to call Google Bard a replacement for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has been developed with Microsoft for a long time. However, don’t forget that Google is one of the earliest BigTech companies to invest in AI development. It will be very interesting to see how Google’s full-fledged AI development will elevate the search engine industry in the future.
