Google Shopping Launches New AD Format: Vehicle Ads

The digital world has become integral to all business sectors, resulting in increased social media usage globally, with no signs of slowing down. Naturally, the leading search engine provider, Google, is well aware of this, especially regarding product purchasing behavior among social media users. Therefore, Google has created Google Shopping to provide a space for social media users worldwide to choose and purchase products according to their needs, while also allowing brands or marketers to easily promote or sell products. According to data compiled by Google from social media users worldwide, 89% of new car buyers start by researching online, and in 2021, 16% of car purchases occurred online. Certainly, this latest update to Google Shopping introduces a new category called Vehicle Ads, or simply put, an online car dealership that allows anyone looking for a new car to instantly select and purchase through searches on Google Shopping.

Introducing Vehicle Ads

At the recent National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) event, Google launched Vehicle Ads, a new AD format that Google claims will help create a simplified experience for those looking to buy a new car. This is achieved by displaying vehicle information directly from sellers. For example, if you’re looking for a 2019 SUV, simply searching for it on Google Vehicle Ads will display images of the car and essential information such as brand, model number, price, and mileage used, to facilitate and expedite the decision-making process when buying a new car.

How Vehicle Ads Works

Vehicle Ads works by starting with those who want to advertise cars for sale (supporting both used car sellers and dealerships). They upload vehicle information to the Google Merchant Center. This information should include details related to the car being advertised, such as brand, model number, price, mileage, color, and more. Google’s system uses these details to help match customer searches. Google claims that during the Beta testing period, using Vehicle Ads to list cars resulted in ad campaigns receiving up to 25% more conversions. However, this is currently just an update available in America, and users in Thailand may have to wait a while before Google releases this update for use.
