A recent announcement from Twitter Support indicates that they have updated a feature that users have been requesting for some time: the ability to search messages in private chats (Direct Messages) more conveniently. Previously, users could only search for user accounts or group chats (Group Chat). Now, users can use keywords to search messages in this new search bar immediately. They also added that this new feature will be available on all platforms, both on the website and through applications.
How to Start Searching Direct Messages
Searching for private chat messages is easy. Simply click on the envelope icon (Messages), and you’ll see the search bar (Search Direct Messages) at the top. That’s it – you can now search private chat messages by selecting keywords to use in the search. However, according to testing by The Verge, it is currently not possible to search for messages older than 2020.
While not new when compared to other social media platforms, where searching for private messages became commonplace in 2022, it must be acknowledged that for brands, managing and maintaining customer relationships is a top priority. Searching for messages becomes crucial when brands need to contact a large number of customers. This new feature update from Twitter demonstrates a good response to understanding Twitter users worldwide.
