LinkedIn, the app that has long been number one in the hearts of working adults, has recently announced an update launching the CC Captions feature that will help create descriptive content for video clips automatically. This is intended to assist people with disabilities who need to access video content.

LinkedIn is committed to helping people with hearing impairments access more content within the platform with this automatic caption feature. In addition, LinkedIn has also launched the High Contrast Mode feature on the mobile version to improve color display for visually impaired users and many other features. What are the details, and what is worth knowing? Relevant Audience has gathered it all for you to watch along. Let’s take a look.

New Features for Job Postings and User Profiles

In honor of Disability Employment Awareness Month, LinkedIn has made several improvements to accessibility features for Job Posting and User Profiles.

LinkedIn Adds Accessibility Position on Job Titles

According to LinkedIn’s report, the number of job postings in the United States has increased significantly overall, and there is more mention of accessibility skills in job positions. LinkedIn states:

“Our data shows that since September 2019, job postings requiring accessibility support skills have increased by 171%, demonstrating that companies are increasingly interested in hiring experts in accessibility support for various disabilities.”

For these reasons, LinkedIn has decided to add the Accessibility position on Job Titles to create a standard that helps employees worldwide find and select positions that match their skills.

Add “Dyslexic Thinking” Skill on Profile Page

LinkedIn partnered with Richard Branson and Made by Dyslexia to launch Dyslexic Thinking, a unique skill that users can now add to their personal profiles. For those unfamiliar, Dyslexic is a learning language disorder that prevents people with the condition from reading, spelling, or writing due to problems separating sounds, letters, and linking letter sounds. However, people with this condition can often understand complex topics well and easily. LinkedIn recognizes this point well that Dyslexic Thinking skills can be seen as a strength and a meaningful skill differentiator. It is another feature with a very beneficial concept for users.

CC Captions Feature for Automatic Caption Input and High Contrast

Let’s move on to the CC Captions feature on video clips that will help input captions automatically. The captions will be created in English only (for now), which uploaders can choose to use immediately or check before publishing to ensure accuracy for viewing.

In addition to the CC Captions feature, all viewers can now enable the High Contrast feature to increase color contrast when watching videos on the platform. This improves visibility for people with visual impairments.

Alt Text Function on Campaign Manager

Alt Text, or image descriptions, is a very useful function, one of which is to help people with visual impairments understand the images better. Currently, LinkedIn has updated the function to add Alt Text to image ads on Campaign Manager, which will be launched soon.

Concluding Remarks

The features that LinkedIn has announced are the CC Captions feature, which will launch in a few weeks, and the Alt Text function on Campaign Manager, which is expected to be available soon. Other features are already available.
