“Copycat, but copy back” The social media platform war continues to burn brightly throughout 2022. Most recently, TikTok, the popular short-video sharing platform for teenagers, is preparing to add a new feature called Photo Mode, which is essentially the highlight of Instagram, its long-time competitor.

Besides the Photo Mode feature, there will also be Enhanced Editing and other additions. What details will they have, and what direction will TikTok take in the social media platform competition? In this article, Relevant Audience has gathered information for everyone to know. Let’s take a look together.

TikTok Launches Photo Mode Feature

TikTok allows all platform users to express themselves more through the newly launched Photo Mode, allowing users to share multiple still images in a single post.

Many social media enthusiasts probably already know that TikTok is a platform famous for short video content, and it has continued to be popular since the platform was launched two to three years ago. This has led various platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, to release features similar to TikTok, causing many people to jokingly say that other platforms are following in TikTok’s footsteps. However, as mentioned, TikTok has now decided to expand the features on the platform to support a wider range of users, including those who may not like sharing stories in the form of short videos but prefer posting photos, just like the Instagram platform can do.

This feature is called Photo Mode. TikTok defines it as a way for everyone to connect with each other more through photo posts, whether it’s single images or albums, along with captions or image descriptions of up to 2,200 characters, and even adding background music.

How to Use Photo Mode

To use the Photo Mode feature, press the “+” icon on the For You page, then click the “Upload” button on the bottom right to select the desired images. Then, click “Next”.

If you want to switch to Video Mode, you can simply click the “Switch to Video Mode” icon that appears at the bottom.

Add Improved New Video Editing Mode

In addition to the Photo Mode feature, TikTok has also improved the video editing feature to give users more freedom to create content, whether it’s adjusting video clips, audio, images, and text through trimming and splitting video clips or adding various sound effects, increasing or decreasing the speed of certain parts of the video clip.

Social Media War Today

It might be too early to conclude which platform will be the winner in this heated social media war. As you know, during one period, the TikTok platform, which came with a short video trend, inspired other platforms to adapt. But it’s clear that when it comes to still image content, Instagram remains the leader, prompting TikTok to introduce a similar feature. Of course, besides copying features to attract user bases of each platform, it’s important for each platform to continuously develop features that meet the needs of users to retain existing users and attract users from other platforms.
