Google Views Duplicate Content as Spam! What Marketers Need to Know

Recently, Google has released a new Content Policy stating that content with duplicate characteristics published on Business Profiles will be considered spam. What are the details, and why should marketers using Google Business Profile pay attention? Let’s take a look.

Google Announces New Guidelines Viewing Duplicate Content as Spam

A tweet by Colan Nielsen on Twitter revealed that Google has issued additional guidelines on the Content Policy, specifying that duplicate content is viewed as spam on Google Business Profile, whether it’s in the form of images, posts, videos, or logos.

For those who want to view the full Content Policy of Google Business Profile, you can find it here.

Avoid Duplicate Content

For marketers or local business owners using Google Business Profile, you may be wondering what this updated policy means.

It’s important to note that Google is placing greater emphasis on content posting on Business Profiles. They will not allow users to post the same images, videos, or sets of messages repeatedly. If you have a business profile and frequently post the same images or videos with the same message, even to reinforce promotional offers, Google will view this content as duplicate content or “repeated content” and may consider it spam, which can lead to problems for your business profile.

Additionally, there’s another thing to watch out for: excessive use of your brand logo. This can also cause Google to view it as duplicate content. Therefore, the best practice according to the new Content Policy is to ensure that each post contains no repeated content and to avoid using your brand logo too frequently.

Conclusion

It’s safe to say that this update to the Content Policy requires many marketers and business owners using Business Profiles to adapt, especially the prohibition against using brand logos. However, Google hasn’t yet announced specific details about how frequently brand logos can be used before being considered spam. We’ll need to wait for an announcement from Google, but it’s best to avoid it for now. Hopefully, this update will help you adjust your online marketing strategy.
