Google Tests New Update for Featured Snippets

According to a recent report by Barry Schwartz, a renowned columnist from the Search Engine Roundtable website, Google is starting to test two new updates that will be added to Featured Snippets. These are called “From The Web and Other Sites Say.” What are the details, and what do brands, marketers, or SEO specialists need to know? Let’s take a look together.

What are Featured Snippets? 

Have you ever searched for information and gotten an immediate answer without having to click through each website? Featured Snippets are a feature of Google Search that aims to provide answers quickly for those searching. They appear in the form of a text box at the top, above both the websites that have achieved SEO ranking number 1 and the websites that have purchased Ads. The question is, how can you ensure that your website’s content is selected to be displayed in a Featured Snippet? The answer is to optimize your SEO to meet the requirements of Google’s algorithm. This could involve improving pages that already rank on the first page of the SERPs or using questions as headings. This is a good idea because several reliable research studies consistently report that most Featured Snippets are in the form of questions. Therefore, if you start your content headings with the word “why,” it will increase the chances of your content appearing in a Featured Snippet.  

Two New Formats “From The Web and Other Sites Say”

Reports indicate that Google is testing something with Featured Snippets, adding more variety to the information displayed for users. The first format is called 

  • Other Sites Say For the second format, it groups data from all three websites together.
