On August 8th, Google announced a reorganization of search result page display (Google Search Result Page) to ensure all users receive the best possible search results. As a result, Google has decided to reduce the visibility of Rich Results, including both FAQ Schema (Frequently Asked Questions) and limit the visibility of How-To Schema to desktop devices only, effective immediately after the announcement.

For those wondering how Google’s announcement will affect them and its impact on online marketing, this article will provide an explanation. And if you’re looking for SEO services, RA also offers SEO Services to help you rank on the first page. If you’re ready, let’s dive in.

What are FAQ and How to Schema?

Before understanding why Google is discontinuing Rich Results like FAQ and How to, let’s first introduce what Rich Results are. (You can read more in Rich Result is) In the search result page, or what we call Google Search Result Page, data from various website pages is pulled up and displayed according to basic components. For example, when you search on Google, you often see information that includes the Site name (website name), website icon (Favicon), Site Address (domain name), Meta title, and Meta Description. Google calls these Attributions, which searchers can see.

So, what are Rich Results? Rich Results refer to the name given to additional displays pulled from Structured Data, which is created in the form of Schema Code. This data is then displayed in various formats, commonly referred to as Rich Snippets, which come in a variety of formats to choose from depending on the purpose of the website (see more examples in What are Rich Snippets).

Both How to and FAQ are types of Rich Snippets. Here are some examples:

FAQ Schema

FAQ Schema

For FAQ, it displays a set of frequently asked questions to help searchers get answers immediately.

How to Schema

How to Schema

This type of Rich Snippet provides instructions for searchers to understand various procedures, allowing them to include text, videos, or images.

On Which Websites Does Google Discontinue Use?

According to Google’s latest announcement, Google states that from now on, it will organize the display of FAQ Rich Snippets for only three types of websites:

Regarding How to Rich Snippets, Google will limit their display to desktop searches only, meaning they cannot be displayed for mobile users. This aligns with Google’s current process of prioritizing Mobile-First Indexing.

What Impact Does Starting SEO Have?

It’s unclear why Google decided to change search results, but we believe Google sees the importance of these changes for the future. For marketers or anyone starting SEO, we recommend stopping the use of these Rich Snippets to avoid potential issues. We hope this article helps those passionate about the online marketing world apply this information. Stay tuned for more news and knowledge in future articles.
