For marketers who use Google Ad Manager as their primary tool for running advertising campaigns, you may have already seen the latest updates from Google in early June. These latest updates from Google include changes and improvements to some features, along with an announcement of additional updates to come in the future.

For those who want to know the details of these changes in depth and for real, this article summarizes the details of both the changed features and the upcoming update plans.

What’s New in Google Ad Manager?

The latest update to Google Ad Manager comes with improvements and changes to 4 key areas:

1. Manage Inventory

The updates to the Manage Inventory function are as follows:

2. Manage Network Setting

The updates to the Manage Network Setting function are as follows:

  • Optimize Pricing – This feature allows users to improve pricing to increase the Auction Floor to provide more accurate information about Inventory’s Value. This feature will be enabled by default but can be disabled through settings in the Network Settings menu.
  • Facebook Rebranded – As many people know, Facebook has rebranded to Meta. This update changes all references on Google Ad Manager to reflect this change.
  • Block Ad Experiences – This update improves the “Allow Video Ads” function by adding the ability to block Non-Instream Video Ads, which is now a new feature called “Block Non-Instream Video Ads.”
  • SupplyChain Object Complete – For marketers using MCM Manage Inventory, Google has released an update to the SupplyChain Object to resolve issues related to ads.txt and vendors.json files.

3. Report and Optimize

  • Google Analytics 4 – For those using Google Analytics 4, Google has integrated the functionality between GA4 and Ad Manager for viewing Analytics data. You can connect both accounts (Read how to connect here).
  • Bid Rejection Reason – For marketers who have previously been Bid Rejected, Google has updated the “Bid Rejection Reason” to provide more detailed information about Bid Rejections.

4. Help Center Update

  • WebView API for Ads – For marketers looking to monetize through WebView Content, Google has unlocked it to help app developers generate additional revenue through WebView Content.

Upcoming Updates

The upcoming feature updates announced by Google are as follows:

  • Active View Measurement Update – This update will change the perspective of measurement from proprietary to Open Measurement (OM).
  • app-ads.txt for CTV – In the coming months, Google will require all marketers to comply with the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) standard for advertising on CTV platforms. It will be necessary to manage app-ads.txt files correctly (Read more details here).
  • Query Migrations – To help marketers work more easily, Google will begin migrating search queries from the “Ad Exhange Historical” report type to the “Historical” report category directly to prevent user confusion.
