For marketers who are currently using Google Ads as a tool for running advertising campaigns, get ready for a new interface upgrade from the Custom Column feature, which will help display various types of data directly to interested users on the interface page.

According to Google's latest announcement, the performance of this Custom Columns feature has now been enhanced to work even better and to suit the trends of modern marketing. What new functions have been added in this update? If you're ready, let's take a look together.

What's new in "Custom Columns"?

Marketers experienced in using Google Ads are likely already very familiar with the Custom Columns feature, since Google introduced it to users back in 2014. At that launch, Google stated that this feature would allow users to segment their existing columns to gain more detailed insights according to their needs. For example, if a user wants to view data related to Clicks and Conversions in the categories of computers and mobile phones, the user can quickly create or define these columns without having to click through each section separately, saving valuable working time.

For the latest version of the Custom Columns feature update in Google Ads, the details are as follows:

  • You can now calculate and compare data across different time periods (Date Range). For example, if a user wants to define a column to find the average or compare the Clicks data of an advertising campaign over a specified time frame, they can click to use the "Data Over a Set Report Day" function and enter the formula "Clicks / report_days_count())>=100". The system will then display the specific column you want on the interface page, allowing the user to immediately analyze data within the defined time frame.
  • Adding an option to reference custom columns where various formulas can be used (read how to use it here)
  • The ability to filter custom variables (Filter Ability) for Conversions value data
  • The ability to display columns that do not require a formula (such as campaign name, budget, and others)
  • Adding new column formats such as Date, Text, and True/False

The "Custom Columns" feature is considered one solution that conveniently and quickly combines various columns together to view the specific data segments of interest, with users able to define columns themselves according to the metrics available in Google Ads. Of course, Google states that all of these newly added functions will help marketers customize various important data more conveniently and will help improve advertising campaigns more precisely. On top of that, it also saves working time, helping to boost the performance of advertising campaigns even further.
