Canva names its first Thailand country manager and puts Thai adoption in its global top 10

Canva has appointed Max-Pakpol Tangtongchin as its first Thailand Country Manager, a role he took up in late 2025, and published Thai usage figures in an interview dated 5 August 2026. Canva said Thailand is one of its 10 largest markets globally by user base, that more than half the Thai population has signed up, and that about 1 in 10 people use Canva in a given month.

Every one of those figures is Canva's own, delivered through an interview with Canva's own country manager. The interview, published by Marketing Oops on 5 August 2026, carries no methodology, and no third party has verified any of it. That is reason enough to keep Canva's name attached whenever the numbers are quoted.

What Canva reported on 5 August 2026

Canva said in the Marketing Oops interview published on 5 August 2026 that Tangtongchin became its first Thailand Country Manager in late 2025 and is its first full-time employee there. It reported more than 260 million monthly active users across more than 190 countries, placed Thailand in its 10 largest markets by user base, and put Thai mobile-to-desktop usage at 50-50.

Canva published no absolute number of Thai users, no Thailand revenue figure and no paid-subscriber count, and Marketing Oops did not report them either.

"Signed up" and "uses Canva monthly" are not the same measurement

The two Thai figures Canva gave Marketing Oops on 5 August 2026, more than half the population signed up and about 1 in 10 using Canva monthly, count different things and must not be set against each other. A sign-up is a cumulative registration, recorded once and kept, so the total carries long-abandoned accounts and duplicates from one person with a work and a personal address. Monthly use counts activity inside a window. Registrations only climb; activity moves both ways.

The pair is easy to misread as a funnel, with the space between them looking like lapsed users. It is neither a funnel nor a churn rate. Canva published no definition of what "signed up" counts, no absolute Thai user number and no measurement window, so the two cannot be reconciled from outside the company.

Localisation, nearly 200 creators, and a campaign claim with no figure

Canva described its Thai approach to Marketing Oops as a standardised core platform with locally adapted elements. In the same 5 August 2026 interview it said payment and login methods are fully localised for Thailand, Thai font support has been expanded, and it works with nearly 200 Thai creator partnerships making templates and elements. Nearly 200, not 200, and Canva did not say how those creators are selected or paid.

Canva also said its Thai campaign "ใครๆ ก็ can ว่ะ", built on the different ways Thai speakers pronounce "Canva", reached a higher completed view rate than nearly all of its previous global advertising. No numbers accompany that claim at all: no rate, no comparison set, no window.

The figures against what they do not establish

The table sets each number Canva gave Marketing Oops against what it leaves unanswered.

What this means for Thai marketers

The reading below is analysis rather than reporting. Canva did not say any of it.

If the monthly figure is even directionally right, Canva now works as default design infrastructure for Thai SMEs and in-house marketing teams. The cost of a default is sameness: brands building from the same template library and the same stock photography start to look interchangeable in the same feed. The answer is not to drop a tool that works, but to pull the parts that carry recognition, colour, type and layout rules, into a locked brand kit, so what is shared is production speed rather than the face of the brand. That is a content marketing decision before it is a design one.

The 50-50 split is the most usable number here. If half the people producing and approving creative in Thailand work on a phone, phone review is not a final check, it is half the workflow. Type sizes, crop safe areas and text-over-image contrast belong at that size from the first draft, which is what keeps a social ad working in the feed, not just the deck.

Questions about Canva's Thailand figures

How many people in Thailand actually use Canva?

Canva did not publish an absolute number. It gave proportions of the population, more than half signed up and about 1 in 10 using the product monthly, with no definition of either measure and no measurement window.

Does "more than half the population has signed up" mean half of Thailand uses Canva?

No. Sign-ups are cumulative registrations that would include dormant and duplicate accounts, while monthly use measures activity in a window. Canva gave both figures without defining either, and the gap between them is not a count of lapsed users.

Is the completed view claim for the Thai campaign backed by a number?

No. Canva said the campaign beat nearly all of its previous global ads on completed view rate and attached no figure. The source states no rate, no comparison set and no period.

Does this appointment mean I have to change anything?

Nothing in the source calls for action. Marketing Oops reported an appointment and figures Canva reported about itself, with no methodology and no third-party check, rather than a product change, a pricing change or a feature rollout.

A first country manager and a top-10 market claim say something real about where design work in Thailand is being done, and the figures hold as long as Canva's name stays on them. What they leave open is how much of your creative should come from a shared template library and how much has to look like you, a content, social and search question at once.
