TL;DR
- Lazada Sponsored Solutions posted on 2 October 2026 that MSA ROAS/ROI Protection applies to eligible Mega Sales Accelerator campaigns from 12 October 2026.
- The rebate is the lower of Actual Spend minus (Guided GMV / threshold) or 80% of spend, paid as LSS vouchers valid for 30 days.
- Eligibility requires creating the campaign before Teasing, a budget at or above the system recommendation, Auto Bidding only, no pausing and minimum campaign orders of 5 x the number of campaign days.
- One Total Budget and System-Optimized Bidding are for selected sellers only, and Lazada says availability may vary by country.
Lazada Sponsored Solutions (LSS) said on 2 October 2026 that, starting 12 October 2026, its Mega Sales Accelerator (MSA) campaigns for sale events gain ROAS/ROI Protection: if an eligible campaign ends at or below a protected ROAS/ROI threshold set by the system, part of its spend comes back as LSS ad vouchers, capped at 80% of total campaign spend. Lazada also said selected sellers will get one Total Budget for the whole campaign period and system-optimized bidding, with availability that may vary by country.
What Lazada announced on 2 October 2026
Lazada Sponsored Solutions, the advertising arm that runs sponsored placements inside the Lazada marketplace, published the change on its official news page in English and Thai, both dated 2 October 2026. The English post, "Mega Sales Accelerator (MSA) Is Getting an Upgrade", says the update is meant to give sellers "greater confidence when running your campaigns and simplify campaign management." It lists three changes under "What's New":
- MSA ROAS/ROI Protection. For eligible MSA campaigns, part of the spend is rebated as LSS vouchers if the campaign performs below a protected ROAS/ROI threshold across the full campaign period.
- One Total Budget. The seller sets one Total Budget for the whole campaign period, and the system allocates daily spending "based on real-time traffic and conversion signals."
- System-Optimized Bidding. The system manages bids continuously from campaign performance signals, "without the need to select a bidding type or manually set a bid cap."
The footnotes matter. Protection is marked "subject to eligibility criteria." The budget and bidding changes carry a separate footnote: "Currently available to selected sellers only. Availability may vary by country." The post does not say which sellers are selected or which of Lazada's markets get those two features first.
The Thai version of the post covers the same rules but calls the feature "MSA ROAS Protection" throughout, without the "ROI" label. Lazada's 9 September 2026 page on Sponsored Max protection notes that the bidding target there is "Target ROAS (or Target ROI, depending on the country)." For a Thai seller, the working metric in the Thai announcement is ROAS.
How MSA ROAS/ROI Protection works
According to the LSS post of 2 October 2026, the system "determines a protected ROAS/ROI threshold for the full campaign period based on your campaign performance and other benchmarks." The post does not explain the formula behind the threshold, does not name the other benchmarks, and does not say whether a seller can see the threshold before the campaign starts.
The assessment happens once. Lazada says the rebate "is assessed once after campaign performance attribution is complete based on the 30-day last-click attribution model" and is calculated over the full campaign period. That period runs "from the start of Teasing through the end of Post D-Day, inclusive," so the pre-sale warm-up days and the days after the main sale day all count toward one result. A strong D-Day cannot be judged on its own, and neither can a weak teaser phase.
The rebate formula
Lazada says the system calculates two rebate amounts and applies the lower one, capped at 80% of total campaign spend:
- Rebate amount = Actual Spend minus (Guided GMV divided by the ROAS/ROI Protection threshold)
- Rebate amount = Actual Spend multiplied by 80%
Both Actual Spend and Guided GMV are measured across the full campaign period. A rebate only applies when actual campaign ROAS/ROI is at or below the protection threshold, which is the first eligibility condition on Lazada's list.
What the formula does (analysis). Guided GMV divided by the threshold is the amount of spend that would have produced exactly the protected ROAS on the sales the campaign actually drove. The first formula refunds the spend above that level. In other words, once the voucher is counted, the seller's net ad cost lands at the point where ROAS on net spend equals the protected threshold. The 80% ceiling only takes over when a campaign does very badly: working the two formulas through, the cap binds when actual ROAS is at or below one fifth of the threshold. Lazada did not describe it this way; this is arithmetic on the published formula.
A worked example with hypothetical numbers
Lazada's post contains no worked example. The figures below are invented for illustration only and simply apply the published formula. Assume the system sets a protected ROAS of 5, the campaign spends 10,000 baht, and it drives 30,000 baht of Guided GMV, an actual ROAS of 3. Guided GMV divided by the threshold is 6,000 baht. The first formula gives 10,000 minus 6,000, which is 4,000 baht. The second gives 80% of 10,000, which is 8,000 baht. The lower figure applies, so the seller would receive 4,000 baht in LSS vouchers, and the net cost of 6,000 baht against 30,000 baht of GMV works out to a ROAS of 5.
Now assume the same campaign drives only 5,000 baht of Guided GMV, an actual ROAS of 0.5. The first formula gives 10,000 minus 1,000, or 9,000 baht. The cap gives 8,000 baht. The lower figure, 8,000 baht, applies. In that case the protection does not fully restore the threshold, which is the point of the cap.
How the vouchers are paid
The rebate is ad credit, not cash. Lazada says the voucher is issued within 5 working days after campaign performance is fully attributed on the 30-day last-click model, is valid for 30 days from issuance, and is credited to the account automatically without manual collection. It appears under the name "MSA ROAS Protection Voucher." Sellers can find it in Lazada Seller Center under Sponsored Solutions, On-Platform Solutions, Account Settings, Account Balance, in the Voucher section. Each campaign's status shows on the MSA Report Detail page as "Rebated," "Rebate Calculating" or "Not Rebated."
Timing (analysis). The 30-day attribution window comes first, then up to 5 working days for issuance, then 30 days of validity. For a campaign that ends in mid-November, the attribution window alone runs into mid-December, so any voucher would arrive around then and expire roughly a month later. Sellers who want to use the credit need ads running in that window.
The eligibility rules, item by item
Lazada lists the conditions a campaign must meet. All of them come from the 2 October 2026 post:
- Actual campaign ROAS/ROI is at or below the ROAS/ROI Protection threshold.
- The campaign is created before Teasing starts. A campaign created after that point is not eligible.
- Total Budget is at or above the system-recommended Total Budget when the campaign is created.
- Total campaign spend is above zero at the end of the campaign period.
- The seller does not pause the campaign during the campaign period.
- "If applicable," the campaign uses Auto Bidding only. Max CPC bidding is not eligible, and the bidding setup cannot be switched during the campaign.
- Minimum campaign orders are at least 5 multiplied by the number of campaign days.
- The campaign remains active throughout the full campaign period.
Lazada adds three notes that loosen or qualify those rules. Increasing the Total Budget during the campaign period does not affect eligibility. Adding or removing products during the campaign period does not affect eligibility. And "eligibility criteria are subject to change without prior notice." The post also says protection "is available only for Mega, Double-Digit, Mid-Month, Payday, or equivalent campaign subject to country availability."
The order floor deserves a check before launch. The post does not state how many days each campaign period lasts, so the exact number varies. As an illustration only, a period of 7 days from Teasing to Post D-Day would require at least 35 campaign orders. Sellers with low-volume catalogues may not reach that floor, and in that case the protection simply does not apply.
MSA protection compared with Sponsored Max protection
Lazada already runs a similar rebate on its Sponsored Max product, described on a page dated 9 September 2026 with eligibility changes from 22 September 2026. The table below sets the MSA rules beside the Sponsored Max rules for Mega campaign periods, using only what the two LSS pages state.
| Rule | MSA ROAS/ROI Protection (from 12 Oct 2026) | Sponsored Max, Mega periods |
|---|---|---|
| Protected threshold | Set by the system from campaign performance and other benchmarks | 90% of Target ROAS (70% for Rapid Boost campaigns) |
| Assessment window | Once, from Teasing start to Post D-Day end | Once, from Teasing start to Live end |
| Minimum orders | 5 x number of campaign days | 8 orders per day (Store and Product) |
| Rebate cap | 80% of total campaign spend | 80% of total spend in the promotional period |
| Bidding requirement | Auto Bidding only; Max CPC not eligible | Target ROAS bidding type |
The structural difference is who sets the bar. On Sponsored Max the seller picks a Target ROAS and protection is a percentage of it. On MSA the system sets the threshold. That makes the MSA guarantee easier to switch on and harder to predict, because the seller does not choose the number the rebate is measured against.
One Total Budget and System-Optimized Bidding
The other two changes shift day-to-day control from the seller to Lazada's system. With One Total Budget, the seller sets one figure for the full campaign period and the system decides how much to spend each day "based on real-time traffic and conversion signals throughout the campaign." With System-Optimized Bidding, there is no bid type to pick and no bid cap to set.
Lazada says both features are "currently available to selected sellers only" and that availability "may vary by country." The post does not explain how sellers are selected, whether sellers can opt in, or when wider availability is planned.
The trade (analysis). Read together, the protection rules and the new setup ask the seller to give up the levers that manual advertisers usually rely on during a big sale: no pausing, no Max CPC, no mid-campaign switch of bidding setup, and a budget at least as high as the system recommends. In return, the downside is partly covered by a rebate. The post leaves budget increases and product changes open, so sellers still control how much extra money goes in and which products are promoted.
What Lazada did not say
Several points a seller would want before committing budget are missing from the 2 October 2026 post:
- Which countries and which sellers get One Total Budget and System-Optimized Bidding.
- How the protected threshold is calculated, which "other benchmarks" feed it, and whether the seller sees it in advance.
- How long each campaign period runs, which sets the minimum order count.
- How "Guided GMV" is defined for MSA. The Sponsored Max page uses Total Guided GMV divided by Total Spend for period ROAS, but the MSA page gives no definition of its own.
- Whether the vouchers can be spent on any LSS product or only on some.
- Any uptake figures, budget totals or results from earlier tests.
How this fits Lazada's recent changes
The MSA update is the third LSS post in under a month that ties a reward to automation. On 9 September 2026, LSS described ROAS/ROI Protection for Sponsored Max campaigns using Target ROAS bidding, with revised criteria from 22 September 2026. On 29 September 2026, LSS announced an October offer: sellers who turn on Auto Budget Increase for a total of at least 10 days between 1 and 31 October 2026 receive a free LSS voucher, granted on 6 November 2026, collected manually and valid for 30 days. That page links to Seller Center for Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Our reading (analysis, not Lazada's wording): across the three posts, Lazada pays sellers, in ad credit, to hand budget and bidding decisions to its system. Whether that works out for a given seller depends on catalogue size, margins and how well the system's threshold matches the seller's own break-even ROAS.
What this means for Thai marketers
This section is analysis, not something Lazada stated. Lazada published the announcement in Thai, and the Thai double-digit sales are exactly the campaign types the protection covers. On the dates alone, 10.10 starts before the 12 October 2026 launch, so 11.11 and 12.12 look like the first big events where Thai sellers could test it, if protection is available in Thailand. The post says protection depends on country availability and does not confirm Thailand by name.
A practical checklist for an ecommerce marketing team planning 11.11:
- Create the MSA campaign before Teasing starts, not on the day.
- Accept a Total Budget at or above the system recommendation, and only raise it afterwards.
- Use Auto Bidding and leave it alone. A switch to Max CPC removes protection.
- Do not pause the campaign, even briefly, between Teasing and Post D-Day.
- Check whether expected campaign orders reach 5 x the number of campaign days.
- Compare your own break-even ROAS with the outcome. Protection restores the system's threshold, not your margin.
- Plan where the voucher credit will go, since it expires 30 days after issue.
Teams that also run Google Ads for the same sale will recognise the trade: more automation in exchange for less manual control. The difference is that Lazada attaches a written rebate to it.
FAQ: Lazada MSA ROAS/ROI Protection
When does MSA ROAS/ROI Protection start?
It starts on 12 October 2026, according to the Lazada Sponsored Solutions post dated 2 October 2026. Campaigns must also be created before their Teasing phase begins to qualify.
How much of my ad spend can Lazada rebate?
The rebate is capped at 80% of total campaign spend. Lazada calculates Actual Spend minus (Guided GMV divided by the threshold) and Actual Spend times 80%, then pays the lower amount as LSS vouchers.
Is the upgrade available in Thailand?
The source does not confirm it by country. Lazada published a Thai-language version, but it says protection is subject to country availability and that One Total Budget and System-Optimized Bidding are for selected sellers only and may vary by country.
Can I pause the campaign or use Max CPC and still be protected?
No. Lazada's rules say the seller must not pause the campaign, Max CPC bidding is not eligible, and the bidding setup cannot be switched during the campaign.
Is the rebate paid in cash?
No, it is paid as an "MSA ROAS Protection Voucher" in LSS ad credit. Lazada says it is issued within 5 working days after 30-day last-click attribution completes, credited automatically and valid for 30 days.
