Anyone who follows news in the social media platform space has almost certainly come across the various dramas surrounding Twitter, which has changed hands from its former owner to a new CEO in Elon Musk. Most recently, Twitter has once again announced a new identity-verification system for Business Accounts, designed to prevent forgery or impersonation that could lead to various problems down the road.

Twitter reported that this new identity-verification system will include a range of protective measures to ensure that every verified account cannot be impersonated in a way that causes harm to the genuine account owner. The verification system will be denoted by different colors, and there are also criteria that must be met before an account can receive a verification badge. So what are all the details? Relevant Audience has gathered all the information for you to explore together.

Blue Tick: Identity Verification with a Blue Checkmark

Following the news of the rushed feature development through to the official launch announcement, the Blue Verified feature, the system that verifies user accounts with a blue checkmark, will charge a monthly fee for anyone who wants this checkmark in front of their name. It costs 8 US dollars, or roughly 200 baht per month, but if you subscribe through the app on iOS you will have to pay an additional 3 US dollars per month, along with various special privileges. In its latest update, Twitter stated that it is now about to add a system called Account Review to prevent impersonation of other people and to help verify accounts more accurately.

The criteria for using this verification system are as follows:

After passing the assessment, accounts that qualify will receive a Blue Badge, or blue checkmark, and will gain various additional benefits, such as:

  • Being given higher priority in Replies, Mentions, and being shown on the Search Result page
  • Seeing 50% fewer ads
  • Being able to upload longer videos
  • Having access to other features that will be added in the future

For users who previously received a Blue Badge, whether celebrities, public figures, actors, or other well-known people, they will be able to keep their checkmark as before.

Gold Tick for Brands and Companies

In addition to Blue Verified, which is designed for general user accounts, Twitter has also announced that any brand or business organization wanting to verify a Business Account can likewise enter the Gold Verified system, switching from the Blue Badge they received to a Gold Badge, that is, a gold checkmark.

Esther Crawford, who holds the position of Twitter's Product Lead, added that Twitter will soon allow Business Accounts to apply for a Gold Badge, but in the meantime they will need to register through the Blue Verified system temporarily.

Labels for Government Agencies

In addition to the Blue Badge and Gold Badge, Twitter also has an Official Label that serves as an additional identity marker. For these accounts, the label will appear automatically, whether they are:

  • Government agency accounts
  • Accounts related to political organizations, such as political parties
  • Commercial companies and Business Partners
  • Well-known brands
  • Media and publishers
  • Other public figures

Final Thoughts

That is all the update content from Twitter's latest announcement. However, at this time the Gold Verified system and the Official Label have not yet been officially launched, so we may have to wait a while longer. But we believe that before long, Twitter will surely begin rolling them out for Twitter users around the world to use together.
