Google Thailand is joining the Pride Month celebrations alongside International SME Day on 27 June 2022 by promoting a campaign that supports SME businesses carrying the LGBTQ+ Friendly badge on their Business Profile throughout the month of June. The initiative invites a group of 30 entrepreneurs to take part in creating content posts to feature their shops across Google Thailand's various social media channels.
For anyone wondering how Google Business Profile supports the LGBTQ+ community, and where you can enable this feature, this article will introduce you to the LGBTQ+ Friendly feature on Business Profile. If you're ready, let's dive in.
A Pride Month celebration campaign on International SME Day
Google has maintained strong policies in support of gender equality rights for decades, and this year Google Thailand certainly wasn't going to miss the chance to seize the opportunity of Pride Month in June, coinciding with 27 June, which is International SME Day, to organize a special activity that highlights entrepreneurs who support the LGBTQ+ community by promoting 30 SME businesses throughout the month of June.
The shops selected here are chosen from those using the LGBTQ-Friendly tag feature that Google made available back in 2018 on Business Profile. This feature creates a tag for a shop to indicate that the establishment warmly welcomes LGBTQ+ customers, something that Google has consistently supported and championed.
LGBTQ+ Friendly on Business Profile
As mentioned, at the corporate level Google has maintained strong policies supporting the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQ+ community, whether for employees within the organization or for communities both inside and outside the company. A clear example of how much Google cares about this issue is the fact that it has updated a feature on Google Business Profile so that local businesses can display a symbol of support for the LGBTQ+ community across every business category.
For any entrepreneurs who want to enable this feature, here's how to turn it on.
1. Log in to Google Business Profile
On the Business Profile Dashboard, click on the Info tab.
2. Edit Attributes
Then select Attributes to add the tag to your profile page.
3. Search for the Attribute
Then type "Transgender Safe Space" or LGBTQ-Friendly to search for the relevant tags, and click "Apply".
After clicking Apply, you'll need to wait 2-3 days for Google's system to verify the information, after which the LGBTQ-Friendly symbol will appear on the tags section of your profile.
As for the benefits of this tag, beyond indicating that the entrepreneur supports the LGBTQ+ community, it also helps everyday consumers find and directly support businesses that back the LGBTQ+ community. This tag is shown across every display network of Business Profile, both on Google Search and Google Maps.
In fact, in addition to this LGBTQ+ label, Google Business Profile also offers tags that support Black-owned businesses or women-owned businesses. Any entrepreneur who doesn't want to be out of trend shouldn't forget to enable this feature.
