OpenAI adds oCPC bidding to ChatGPT Ads and auto-enables advanced matching on 17 August

OpenAI has added conversion-optimised cost-per-click bidding, dynamic URL macros and a multi-product carousel test to ChatGPT Ads Manager, and on 17 August 2026 it will switch on automatic advanced matching for existing Web pixels unless advertisers opt out first. OpenAI sent the changes to advertisers by email, and Search Engine Roundtable reported them on 7 August 2026.

Bidding, bulk campaign creation, tracking parameters, third-party measurement and a shopping format all moved in the same release. That is the standard equipment list of a performance channel, arriving at once.

oCPC bidding is in beta for product feed campaigns

OpenAI has put conversion-optimised cost-per-click (oCPC) campaigns into beta for product feed campaigns in ChatGPT Ads Manager. The initial release supports click-billed campaigns that use fixed or manual bidding with a positive conversion bid cap.

Advertisers can clone an existing CPC campaign into a new oCPC campaign, or create oCPC campaigns in bulk. During cloning, Ads Manager prefills the conversion event when exactly one eligible event is available, and otherwise prompts the advertiser to select one. OpenAI gave no date for a wider release beyond the beta.

Product feed campaigns are the entry point, which puts the first real bidding controls in the hands of retailers rather than lead-gen advertisers. Teams running feed-driven ecommerce marketing have something to test.

URL macros now fill in campaign, ad group, ad and account IDs

Dynamic URL parameters in ChatGPT Ads now support macros in landing page query strings, including {campaign_id}, {ad_group_id}, {ad_id} and {ad_account_id}. OpenAI said the values are populated at delivery time.

Anyone who has hand-tagged URLs across an account knows what that saves. The ID lands in the query string when the ad serves instead of being typed in per campaign, which removes a whole class of tagging mistakes when stitching ad platform data to analytics or a CRM. It is the same convention Google Ads advertisers have used for years.

OpenAI has begun testing a multi-product carousel for product feed campaigns, showing several products from one advertiser in a single unit. The report gives no test size, market list or timeline.

Triple Whale, Hightouch and clearer pixel diagnostics

OpenAI named two new integrations: Triple Whale, with Sonar Optimize now available for ChatGPT Ads, and Hightouch conversion API support. Pixel validation diagnostics now show why an event was dropped, which field was affected, the error type and a recommended fix, under Tools then Conversions.

The 17 August 2026 advanced matching switch is the dated item

Automatic advanced matching (AAM) is now the default for new Web pixels, and OpenAI said it will enable AAM for existing Web pixels on 17 August 2026. Advertisers who do not want it can opt out before that date under Tools, Conversions, Data Source, then Edit pixel.

Everything else here is optional. This one happens on its own.

Where ChatGPT Ads is expanding next

OpenAI said ChatGPT Ads will launch in Brazil and Mexico in the coming week. The report says nothing about availability in Thailand, and this article makes no claim that the product is live here.

What this means for Thai marketers

The 17 August 2026 date is the part that travels. Any account running a ChatGPT Ads Web pixel is affected by the automatic advanced matching switch regardless of which markets its campaigns target, so the first job is to find out whether such a pixel exists on the properties you manage.

If one does, the PDPA question is worth raising before the date rather than after. Advanced matching changes what customer data the pixel hashes and sends, which is a processing change even when the values are hashed. Checking that the privacy notice and consent flow cover it takes far less time than unwinding it later.

There is a second reading for teams with no ChatGPT Ads access. Conversion bidding, product feeds and carousels inside an AI assistant mean part of the answer surface is now bought rather than earned. The work of being visible in AI-generated answers still stands, but the mix shifts, which is worth factoring into how you approach generative engine optimisation.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT Ads available in Thailand?

The source does not say. OpenAI named Brazil and Mexico as launches in the coming week and made no statement about Thailand either way, so anyone reading a Thai availability claim into this release is reading something that is not there.

Do I have to do anything before 17 August 2026?

Only if you run a ChatGPT Ads Web pixel and do not want automatic advanced matching enabled on it. In that case, opt out before 17 August 2026 under Tools, Conversions, Data Source, then Edit pixel. If you take no action, OpenAI enables it for you.

What does oCPC bidding change compared with CPC?

oCPC optimises click-billed campaigns towards conversions instead of clicks alone. In this first release it is in beta for product feed campaigns and supports fixed or manual bidding with a positive conversion bid cap. OpenAI has not published performance data for it.

Can I move an existing campaign to oCPC without rebuilding it?

Yes. OpenAI said advertisers can clone an existing CPC campaign into a new oCPC campaign, or create oCPC campaigns in bulk. When cloning, Ads Manager prefills the conversion event if exactly one eligible event is available, and asks you to choose if there is more than one.

The source does not say. OpenAI described it as a test for product feed campaigns without giving a timeline, a market list or eligibility rules.

Getting ahead of the date

The move this week is short: audit which properties carry a ChatGPT Ads Web pixel, decide on advanced matching before 17 August 2026, and log the decision where a colleague can find it. If you want help working out how paid AI surfaces sit alongside your existing search activity, our team is happy to look at it with you.
