The Wait Is Over! Instagram Tests a Beta Version of the “Reposts” Feature

If you've been waiting for the “Reposts” feature on Instagram, get ready, because it might be coming soon. On September 8, a representative from Meta, Instagram's parent company, confirmed to TechCrunch that Instagram's development team is planning to test a “Reposts” feature in the near future. What are the details, and what benefits could it bring to brands and marketers doing online marketing on the platform? Let's take a look together.

Instagram Is Testing a Reposts Tab 

This revelation came about by accident, thanks to a Twitter post from Matt Navara, a well-known Social Media Consultant. He captured a profile screenshot of Adam Mosseri, the current Head of Instagram, who had taken a screenshot while answering followers' questions on September 7. In the image, you can clearly see a symbol resembling a “Repost Tab” set apart on the Instagram profile page. This aligns with rumors from May, sparked by a Twitter post from Alessandro Paluzzi, who discovered that Instagram was testing a Repost feature.

Why Does the Repost Feature Matter?

Many people might recall that Instagram actually already has a Repost feature available on Instagram Stories, allowing users to share their own posts to their Stories. But when it comes to reposting on the main feed, it has long been a lingering question for users as to when Instagram would finally roll out such an update. After all, if you look at other social media platforms like Twitter, which has the Retweet function, and most recently TikTok, which has a Repost feature that lets users repost content to their followers 

Until now, Instagram users who wanted to share posts had to rely on various 3rd-party apps in order to share content, which created risks related to privacy and other security concerns. Perhaps it's for these reasons, along with the intense competition among social media platforms, that Instagram's development team decided to add this feature for users. This in turn opens up opportunities for creators to gain more Engagement, since their content has a greater chance of being Reposted by everyday users.

When Will the Repost Feature Arrive on Instagram?

As of now, Instagram has not yet revealed any further details related to the launch of the Reposts feature. However, it's expected that if the testing yields positive results, Instagram's development team will likely share more details soon.
