YouTube Shopping affiliate programme opens in the UK, and Thailand is already on the list

YouTube has opened its Shopping Affiliate Programme to creators in the United Kingdom, with Wayfair, Currys, Debenhams, Boots, M&S and Etsy as the six launch retailers, PPC Land reported on 6 August 2026. The UK becomes the fifteenth market in the programme, and Thailand is already on the list of the other fourteen.

What YouTube launched in the UK on 6 August 2026

PPC Land reported on 6 August 2026 that eligible UK creators can tag products directly inside videos, Shorts and live streams, then earn a commission when a viewer completes the purchase on the retailer's own website. The six retailers named at launch are Wayfair, Currys, Debenhams, Boots, M&S and Etsy, a mix of home, electronics, department store, health and beauty, and marketplace inventory.

The detail worth holding on to is where the sale happens. The purchase completes on the retailer's site, not inside YouTube, so the checkout, the tracking and the customer record stay with the merchant. YouTube supplies the tagged surface and the attribution.

PPC Land also noted that at the time of publication YouTube's Help Center eligibility documentation had not yet been updated to include the UK, and no activation date had been announced. That gap between an announced launch and updated product documentation is normal, but it does mean UK creators reading the official docs may not see the change reflected yet.

Thailand is already one of the fifteen markets

According to the same PPC Land report of 6 August 2026, the fourteen markets the UK joins are Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.

Thailand is on that list. For Thai merchants and Thai creators, the UK launch is not the story. The story is that the programme is not something to watch for later, because the market is already covered. What the source does not say is when Thailand joined, which retailers participate locally, or how many Thai creators are active in it. Anyone acting on this should check the programme's own eligibility page for their market rather than assume the UK retailer list travels.

Who is eligible, and who is shut out

PPC Land's report sets out the eligibility rules for the programme:

  • Creators must be members of the YouTube Partner Program.
  • Music channels are excluded.
  • Official Artist Channels are excluded.
  • Made-for-kids content is excluded.

The exclusions are the informative part. Music and made-for-kids inventory carry rights and child-safety obligations that a shoppable tag would complicate, so YouTube has kept them out rather than build exceptions. If a brand's creator shortlist is heavy on music channels or family content aimed at children, affiliate tagging is not the route.

The 100% commission is temporary, and YouTube said so

As a launch incentive, YouTube is passing 100% of merchant commissions through to creators. PPC Land quoted YouTube saying the incentive is "temporary as we grow the program, and rates may reduce in the future as we transition to a sustainable program structure."

Read that as written. YouTube has told creators the current rate is a recruitment cost, not the steady state. The source gives no replacement figure and no date, so anyone modelling creator earnings off today's rate is modelling an introductory offer. Commission payment windows run 60 to 120 days after purchase, which means a creator's earnings from a campaign land a full quarter or more after the video does.

What this means for Thai marketers

The sourced fact first: Thailand appears in PPC Land's list of markets already running the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Programme. A Thai brand does not need to wait for an announcement to evaluate the channel.

What follows is reasoning rather than reporting. A 60 to 120 day payment window changes how a creator partnership gets negotiated, because a creator working on affiliate commission alone carries the cash-flow gap. Brands used to paying a flat fee per video will find that affiliate-only deals look cheaper on paper and harder to sell to the creator. A hybrid of a smaller fee plus commission is the obvious middle, though nothing in the source addresses deal structures.

The second point is measurement. Because the purchase completes on the retailer's site, affiliate-driven revenue shows up in the merchant's own analytics and needs to be reconciled against paid media rather than counted twice. Teams already running ecommerce marketing campaigns and separate YouTube advertising should decide in advance which report owns a creator-attributed sale, before the first commission statement arrives three months later.

FAQ

Is the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Programme available in Thailand?

Yes. PPC Land's 6 August 2026 report lists Thailand among the fifteen markets in the programme. The report does not say when Thailand was added, which local retailers take part, or how the Thai version differs from the UK launch.

How much do creators earn from it right now?

At launch YouTube is passing 100% of the merchant commission to the creator. YouTube described this as temporary and said rates may reduce as it moves to a sustainable programme structure. The source gives no future rate and no date for a change, so there is nothing to forecast here.

When do creators actually get paid?

Commission payment windows run 60 to 120 days after the purchase, according to the report. That is the window described in the source, and it does not break out why a payment might land at the shorter or longer end.

Can any channel join?

No. Creators must be in the YouTube Partner Program, and music channels, Official Artist Channels and made-for-kids content are excluded. The report does not list any other restrictions.

Has YouTube confirmed a UK start date?

Not as of the report. PPC Land noted that YouTube's Help Center eligibility documentation had not yet been updated to include the UK and that no activation date had been announced.
