There are countless channels for online marketing today, whether it's Google Ads, Facebook Ads, or TikTok Ads. Each platform comes with its own strengths and weaknesses. But believe us, no matter whether the main goal of these marketing tools is to build greater brand awareness, expand the customer base, or hope for profit from massive sales growth, the most important step is undoubtedly the continuous measurement and monitoring of campaign performance to understand what the real results are, so that the data gathered can be applied going forward.

Marketers who use Facebook Ads as their primary tool for building campaigns surely dream of finding a helper that reduces the complexity of gathering all kinds of data, so that they can better understand various insights. Therefore, in this article, we will take all you novice marketers through how to enable a multi-purpose Dashboard on Google Data Studio to report the performance of advertising campaigns on Facebook Ads. Anyone who recoils at the sight of lots of numerical data and can't figure out what to do must not miss this!

Getting started: connecting Facebook and Data Studio

Those who use Google Ads as their primary tool are surely already familiar with regularly turning various insights into beautiful Reports on Data Studio. As for bringing Facebook data and turning it into a Report on Data Studio, it can be done just as easily and is no different, although it may involve slightly more cumbersome steps compared to platforms that are directly within Google's own network.

The following is how to Import Facebook data for use on Data Studio. Don't wait any longer, let's take a look!

1. Start by exporting the data

The easiest way to start exporting data on Facebook is to download the Report on Facebook directly. However, a word of caution: metrics such as Purchases, Purchases Conversion Value, and Cost Per Purchase cannot be downloaded directly. So if you want this type of data, you will have to download the data broken down by campaign or Ad Set only.

Step 1 Go to Meta Business Suite, then select the Ads Reporting heading to create a Report.

Step 2 Select the Metrics and Dimension you want to view on the Report (we recommend selecting Breaks down > Time, as it makes it convenient to filter the data for easy viewing on Data Studio).

Step 3 Once you have arranged the Metrics you want, you can start the Export right away, and you must set the file as .CSV only.

2. Import the data into Data Studio

After completing the step of exporting the data you want from Facebook into a .CSV file, it's time to Import the data into Data Studio, starting with:

Step 1 Open Google Data Studio, then click Create > Data Source > File Upload and upload the .CSV file.

Step 2 Then it's time to connect the data. Click Connect in the top right, then click Create Report and add the Data Source you uploaded. Don't forget to check that all the Metrics are complete and match what you arranged.

3. Time to design and craft the Dashboard

If you take a look, you'll find that in the Data window, users can drag various pieces of data out to create reports in different formats, customizing them to look beautiful and ready to use right away. Anyone who already has skills working in PowerPoint or Keynote can now put those skills to use creating a dashboard to make it easier to understand all the fine-grained numerical data, whether it's changing the theme, adding data with various summary tables, or visualizing it with charts.

Although creating a Dashboard on Data Studio may seem to add a bit more hassle, if you ask whether it's worth it in exchange for the beauty and the ability to help understand the data more easily, it counts as one of the important helpers that can reduce working time over the long run.
