Fundamentals

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Search engine optimisation is the practice of improving a website's content, technical health, and authority to earn higher unpaid rankings in search results.

Unlike paid ads, the results compound over time but rarely appear quickly, so meaningful movement usually takes months rather than days. For example, publishing genuinely useful content, fixing crawl issues, and earning quality links together lift a page's organic position. Done well it becomes a durable, lower-cost acquisition channel.

In practice an SEO programme splits into three workstreams that run at different speeds. Technical fixes land fastest, because removing a crawl block or a noindex tag can restore visibility within a crawl cycle. Content work is next, usually visible in Search Console impressions before it shows in clicks. Authority work is slowest and the hardest to fake, which is why it separates sites that plateau from sites that keep climbing. Most stalled programmes are unbalanced, not underfunded. They publish steadily while ignoring the technical debt or the link gap that caps every page they publish.

Example

A Bangkok clinic ranks 14th for a treatment worth 40 searches a day. It fixes indexable duplicate pages, rewrites the treatment page around the questions patients actually ask, and earns links from two health publications. Six months later it sits 3rd, taking roughly 300 extra visits a month without paying for any of them.

Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take to show results?
Most sites see early movement in three to six months and meaningful commercial results in six to twelve. The timeline depends on your starting authority, how competitive your terms are, and how quickly technical fixes ship. Anyone promising rankings in weeks is either targeting terms nobody searches or buying links.
Is SEO still worth it now that AI answers questions directly?
Yes, and arguably more than before. AI Overviews and assistants still draw on ranked, crawlable pages to build answers, so the work that earns rankings is the same work that earns citations. What changes is the payoff: fewer clicks on informational queries, and more value in commercial pages and brand mentions.
