Most recently, at Google For India, an event that unveils a fresh lineup of products and services, some of which feature exclusive functionality limited to India, while at other times they are new technologies that will roll out to other regions around the world, this being the 8th edition of the event, Google announced several new features on Google Search, including:

These features have only just been launched for the first time in India, and they are likely to be expanded to Google users worldwide. As a result, marketers will find it worthwhile to keep an eye on these features ahead of time. If you're ready, let's dive into the details.

The Search In Video Feature

For anyone who enjoys watching video clips on YouTube and comes across something interesting that makes them want to know more, many people are surely frustrated by having to hit Pause and go off to look up information. But now Google is working to help users search while playing a video on YouTube with the "Search in Video" feature, which is designed to let users look up information through Google Search while still staying on YouTube. This is considered a way of adding convenience and solving a pain point for users in exactly the right way.

Bilingual Search Results

Another feature that looked remarkable at this launch event is Bilingual Search Results, or the display of search results in two languages alongside English, in this case an Indian language. Google stated that "to make it easier for Google Search users, especially bilingual ones, to find information, Google is now developing a search results page that will show the local language alongside English." For now, in India this can be enabled in Hindi, and it will expand to other languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Bengali next year.

Bilingual Voice Search is another feature that may change the world of search forever. With this feature, Google has improved its voice recognition and learning technology for speakers of Hinglish (the distinctive accent of Indians speaking English). Google hopes this feature will help users search by voice as naturally as possible, through technology that mimics neural-network models for perceiving and recognizing sound, taking into account accent, ambient noise, context, and each person's speaking style.

Natural Language on Google Play

Google is developing a new feature for Google Lens to help translate handwriting and convert it into readable text. Google referenced doctors' handwriting, which can be difficult to read, noting that using this feature would help users better understand its meaning. This feature may also be applied to other uses in the future.

Final Thoughts

So what do you think of the various features Google has been gradually rolling out? Even though they were launched and are being used only in India, normally if any feature proves popular and genuinely helps Google users gain real benefit, Google will certainly let users in other countries try it out as well.
