Search Volume

Search volume is the average number of times a keyword is searched in a given period, usually shown as monthly searches.

It helps prioritise which terms are worth targeting, though high volume often means high competition. A term with 200 highly relevant monthly searches can be more valuable than one with 20,000 vague ones.

Tool volumes are modelled estimates, not measurements, and they diverge from reality in known ways. Thai-language volumes are frequently understated because tokenisation struggles with unspaced text, seasonal terms show annual averages that hide the spike that matters, and near-zero terms often have real demand the model rounds away. Search Console impressions are the closer ground truth once you rank at all. Treat volume as a ranking signal between options, useful for ordering a list, unreliable as a forecast of what a page will actually receive.

Example

"seo" shows 33,000 monthly searches in Thailand; "รับทำ seo ราคา" shows 300. The first is dominated by people researching the concept, the second is someone asking prices. A page ranking 3rd for the small term can produce more enquiries than one ranking 8th for the big one, because 300 buyers beat thousands of browsers.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my page get less traffic than the search volume suggested?
Volume is the total search count, not your share of it. Position decides your cut: position one typically captures a quarter to a third of clicks, position five a few percent, and ads, snippets and AI answers take their share before any result gets clicked.
Are low-volume keywords worth targeting?
Often they are the best targets available. Tools understate long-tail and Thai-language demand, competition on small terms is thinner, and buyer intent is usually sharper. Fifty small terms won reliably tend to beat one big term chased for a year.
