Local Pack
The local pack is the block of three local business listings, with a map, that Google shows for searches with local intent.
Appearing in it drives high-intent calls, visits, and direction requests. For example, "dentist Bangkok" typically triggers a local pack above the standard results. Strong Google Business Profiles, reviews, and local relevance are what earn a place in it.
Pack presence is decided by relevance, distance and prominence, and distance is fixed, so the work concentrates on the other two: exact primary category, complete services and attributes, review volume and recency with responses, photos that look current, and consistent citations. Tracking needs grid tools, pack results shift street by street, so a single check from one location tells you almost nothing. The click behaviour is the strategic point: pack users call and navigate without ever reaching a website, so the profile is a landing page in its own right, not a map pin.
Example
"อู่ซ่อมรถ ใกล้ฉัน" returns three garages on a map above every organic result. The garage ranked fourth in the pack is, in effect, invisible: taps, calls and directions concentrate in the three shown. What separates third from fourth here is proximity, then profile quality: reviews, exact categories, complete details. Ranking sixth organically matters far less than making that box.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get my business into the local pack?
- Complete the Google Business Profile precisely: exact primary category, services, hours, photos, then build review volume steadily with responses, keep citations consistent, and hold your site's local relevance current. Proximity you cannot control; everything else you can.
- Why did my business drop out of the local pack?
- Check for profile suspensions or edits, a competitor surge in reviews, category changes, and Google's local update timing. Rank trackers that sample by grid location show whether the drop is everywhere or only at distance, which separates profile problems from proximity ones.
